I’ve never seen Dr. Oz’s talk show before, but I tuned in on Thursday when he featured celiac disease for an entire hour! What a coup for our cause! And Yahoo.com had a couple of stats to prove it…
Apparently viewers really got interested in celiac disease after seeing the show. According to Yahoo’s Buzz Log the Yahoo searches for celiac disease increased 368% in the hours after this show aired. It was the second most searched subject that day behind — no…not Tiger Woods — but rather First Lady Michelle Obama. I think that is fantastic!!!! Major awareness!!
I will admit I only watched the first segment of Dr. Oz’s program. When Elizabeth Hasselbeck was going to talk about how it helps people lose weight, I was no longer interested and had too many other things on my plate to sit for another 45 minutes. I’m sure they covered more on celiac disease and the challenges of the gluten-free diet and not just weight loss.
If you missed it, it does not appear that you can watch the entire show on his website, but there is information on celiac disease there.
I just HAD to share those fantastically cool statistics on celiac searches! Hopefully now more people will talk to their doctors about it and maybe more diagnoses will soon follow!
