Lots of news happened in the celiac community in 2009. This is part one of a two part recap on the celiac or gluten-free news that made it big this year.
It is time. Time for our children’s Christmas/Holiday musicals and the socials (which involve treats) afterwards. Whether you’re Christian or Jewish or another religion that will be gathering at this time of year, you’ll find by planning ahead, these food moments can be managed and you may be able to spread awareness at the same time!
A new article is out in a medical journal focusing on the need for celiac awareness in the medical community and how to diagnose it. While the article was published in a journal for physician assistants, it is a quick read for anyone wanting to learn more about celiac diagnosis.

I’m having a quiet wrestling match in my brain, trying to figure out how Emma could have been glutenized. If you’ve been there, you know you’re filled with questions as to how this could have happened. Or you rationalize other reasons why you might have symptoms. Is it a stomach bug? Nerves, Stress? It’s enough to make you crazy!
WalMart has removed some Great Value products from its gluten-free list. What surprises me the most is that they’ve nixed some of the most basic options they had…rice? Really?
We are now two full days into the TamiFlu, Emma’s on the mend and my fears– are definitely calmed.
