National Celiac Disease Awareness Day: Tuesday, September 13th!
September 8, 2011 by Amy Leger | G+ Amy LegerThe US Senate has officially declared Tuesday, September 13, 2011 National Celiac Disease Awareness Day. This is the second time (the first being last year– same date) the Senate has taken this action. See the designation by clicking here.
It highlights some of the most vital statistics about celiac disease and that,
“all people of the United States should become more informed and aware of celiac disease”
…AMEN!
Besides the date, the verbiage of the Designation is the same as last year.
So as I asked last year, and I ask again, what will you do to help raise awareness for celiac disease next Tuesday?
I pledge to do things I said I would do in last year’s post. Which included all Facebook posts and Tweets being celiac awareness related, eating out at a restaurant with a great gluten free menu, and cooking a gluten free meal for my daughter.
New this year, I pledge to one-up my at-home cooking and try a new gluten free recipe that I haven’t made before. And since I am in the middle of educating my daughter’s cooking class teacher about celiac (and trying to make gluten free accommodations)– I feel like I’m working the awareness a little early this year.
What will you do to raise awareness for celiac on Tuesday, September 13th?? Think about it..and post below! If you can’t come up with something, here’s a suggestion: submit your thoughts on gluten-free labeling during this public comment period the Food and Drug Administration still has going on! That would be a great way!
