Twin Cities Event Brings Awareness to Great Gluten Free Baking
October 30, 2012 by Amy Leger | G+ Amy LegerSome of you may be true year-round bakers, but I really am not…and in my view, we are just getting into the true baking season with the holidays just weeks away (I can hardly believe it!). But to kick off that baking season….I have got the event for you.
On Saturday November 10th, join me at the Baker’s Dozen Gluten Free Bake-Off from 2-4 at Chowgirls Killer Catering in Northeast Minneapolis.
This event is the first of its kind in the Twin Cities and is put on by Restore Healing, Katie Holley, social media guru at Restore, says the company had the idea because it wanted to “showcase all the great local businesses doing a great job with gluten-free yummies,” Holley said. Holley herself has a child who is gluten intolerant and understands how difficult it can be to make a great-tasting gluten free treat. For any dessert lover, this the place to be. “While these decadent desserts are not something you would indulge in daily, it is fun to have a special go-to delicious gluten free treat,” Holley added.
The bake-off will have gluten free dessert samples from 13 different local companies/contestants. Attendees and the guest judges will be able to sample all of the food. Judges will determine the winner of the best gluten free holiday dessert in the Twin Cities.
“Our hope is to inspire cooks to experiment and find ways to create more delicious gluten free desserts,” Holley said. Besides eating yummy treats, we will hear from Jill Grunewald of Healthful Elements about living a gluten-free lifestyle. Nutritionists will be available to answer questions and I will talk about Raising our Celiac Kids, the Twin Cities chapter of a parents group devoted to advocating for children with celiac disease.
I am also excited to be a guest judge for this event. I think it will be a fantastic awareness event! Let’s face it, we gluten free folks don’t often get out and get to do stuff like this, so now is the time to get out and come to this fun, tasty and social event!
Tickets are $10 and a portion will be donated to Twin Cities ROCK. Click here to get your ticket to the Baker’s Dozen Gluten Free Bake-off! We sure hope to see you there!
