Movie Theater Events for People with Autism: Bring Your Gluten-Free Food
April 5, 2010 by Amy Leger | G+ Amy LegerJust a quick post today to mention an event that could mean a lot to some families: Sensory-Friendly Film showings at AMC theaters for people with autism and their families. And it’s BYOGFCFF — A short way of saying “Bring Your Own Gluten-Free/Casein-Free Food”
There is a special showing of How to Train your Dragon on Saturday April 10th. For information on locations and times go to the Autism Society’s website.
Here’s a quick explanation from their website on how it all works:
“In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie.
Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing – in other words, AMC’s “Silence is Golden®” policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.”
What a great thing! You can get the location of the showing nearest you on their website. They even have the next movie lined up: May 22nd the new Shrek 4.
