Registration Deadline is July 15 for MN Camp for Celiac Kids
July 14, 2009 by Amy Leger | G+ Amy LegerGluten-Free Fun Camp in Maple Lake, Minnesota is just a few weeks away (August 4-7, 2009) but the registration deadline is even closer! Tomorrow, July 15th, is the deadline for camp registration. If you have a celiac child – this camp will be the best thing ever! My daughter did this two years ago and is doing it again this year. She loved it so much, I had to do a quick last-minute post to alert everyone about the deadline.
The camp is held at Camp Courage and is packed with horseback riding, hiking swimming crafts, games and bonefires. “The best part of the week is that the campers do not have to worry about food at all. Every meal and snack prepared is gluten-free,” says Katie Radeke, one of the organizers of this year’s camp.
When the kids are at this camp, thinking about food finally becomes secondary – and not the most important thing in their lives. “When our [celiac] children are out and about enjoying summer activities, they are constantly bombarded with the responsibility of making sure they are eating safe food,” Radeke says. “They must be diligent about reading labels and worrying about cross-contamination. At Gluten-Free Fun Camp, they don’t have to ask, read labels or worry about a thing.”
This year, the kids will have a pizza party, a pancake breakfast and even a chocolate fountain!
If you want to register, everything is done by mail. Just check out the Twin Cities ROCK website. Please note however the price for camp is actually $160 – down from the original $220 listed on the site, thanks to generous donations. Kids should be between the ages of 8 and 16. There are day camps available for younger kids. Also, if you have just missed the deadline, email the organizers listed on the website to see if you can still get your child in.
